Navy’s Former Chief of Information takes Conn at Military.com

served as the Navy’s Chief of Information where he was responsible for all aspects of the Navy’s public affairs program. He previously served as special assistant for public affairs to Gen. Richard B. Myers, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He served as electrical officer and main propulsion assistant aboard the destroyer USS O’Brien (DD 975). Between 1979 and 1981, he made two deployments to the western Pacific and Indian Oceans. During his sea tour, Rear Adm. McCreary applied for and received re-designation as a public affairs officer (PAO).

After completing a master’s degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations at San Diego State University, Rear Adm. McCreary came to Washington, D.C., as the news director for “Navy News This Week”, the Navy’s half hour internal TV news show.
