North Carolina Newspapers Silent on John Vick Trial
The Daily Advance is one of several newspapers out of Elizabeth City North Carolina that missed the story on Edenton, NC concert promoter John Vick. Virginia media didn’t miss the story:

Vick turned himself in on two warrants charging him with obtaining money under false pretenses in Danville, VA. Vick’s company Radio Media Productions out of Edenton, NC was the promoter of the very successful Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in Elizabeth City, NC. Following the concert in Elizabeth City, more than one entity was left waiting for payment. Chief among them, the United States Coast Guard who hosted the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in September 2008.
After months of waiting, Coast Guard MWR received a check for $39,000.00 from Vick, which was returned for insufficient funds. Soon after an Outer Banks tour bus company who provided transportation for the concert was also looking for payment. Other vendors voiced concerns, then to the surprise of many vendors came contact by FBI.
This story is far from over. Mr. Vick has been charged but not convicted. He goes to trial in Virginia on the 13th of November. Until then he is presumed innocent.

You do nobody any favors when you waste your investigatory efforts on the minnows like some small-time sleezeball concert promoter while you allow the big fish to get away in plain sight.
I care and there is more to this story. This guy Vick used dozens of excuses for not paying Coast Guard what he owed them. 39K is allot of money to a MWR program that gets very little support CG-1 or CGC.

Maybe someone screwed him over. Possibly, but what we’re learning from our investigation is a bit different. The Nashville REALTOR connection, California investors, and FBI probe are all telling.
The person above believes that a business man writes a 85K, 38K and 35K check by accident?
And in the end the CG got it’s money. Given the problems with Civil Rights and the ongoing investigations with CG-092 manipulating private blogs, it should be the least of anyone’s worries. If this civilian POS is your main worry in the face of these far more pressing issues it is no wonder why those in the shadows continue to get off scot free.
We feel confident we can cover all of these issues at the same time. The 092 issue is complex and interesting.
Much more interesting that crap like this. If any of us here wanted to read about “issues” which nobody at the deckplate level gives a shit about, we’d be over at cgblog. People come to CGR to read the “inside scoop” about what is going on IN THE COAST GUARD and other sea services, not about some loser with a tangental connection to the service at one time in the past.
Any time and bandwidth you waste on non-issues like this is coverage that more important stories (which do actually affect the service and its workforce) do not receive. This site promised us all days ago with a “behind the scenes look” at the shennanigans being conducted out of CG-092. And what do all us readers who have been patiently waiting out here get in return? Nothing about that, but instead garbage “stories” like this we could give a crap about about people we could give a crap about.

Unfortunely Vick has a lot of victims, not just the Coast Guard. Some excuses have been he was robbing Peter to pay Paul, bad economy, etc. But bottom line is he lied to a lot of people about a lot of different things. Why did his arrest not make the Elizabeth City or Edenton newspapers? Scary thing is he is still out there, under a different name promoting Christian concerts. Think they will just forgive him when they don’t get paid?
I want to hear about the press secretary and the scheme.

Can’t remember, heard from reliable source though. Operating under a different name with a different person “in charge” but he is still involved. Trying to make money to pay people back (or so they hope).

Sounds like you anonymous have alot of personal information are you saying that the FBI has a leak? If that be the case then you just set the FBI up for problems didn’t you.
Do you hear what you are saying the man is trying to continue working to pay people back he is not running from anything to me if this man was quilty he would have closed his doors filed bankruptcy and done other things than what he is doing now, but no he is still running his business trying to pay people back you people out there really need to think there are two sides to every story and obviously if someonelse is in charge of his business they did not come into it blind sided so someone has some faith in the man and knows something that ya’ll don’t. And as far as forgiveness, yes jesus died on the cross for our forgiveness and exspects us to do no different if we do not forgive then we are carrying out a sin ourselves. Get a bible. This man is doing what he can it sounds like he has people like you talking about him and is not running and you know he has read this you know he deals with the phone calls everyday and you said it out of your mouth he is working in hope to try and pay these people back sounds like he is doing what he can if you ask me. When the FBI interviews a witness or complainant about an investigation, it’s not a leak. To our knowledge the none of the FBI Agents involved in this investigation issues confidentiality orders to the witnesses.
Oh so you are going on hear say and on onesided information is that it? Oh okay I gotcha. You are a great reminder of what they say everyday if you beleive in god then you have to beleive in the other. Cause let me tell you if you are someone who has even had an arquement with someone in your life then you know that there are two sides to every story and if you are human and have lived on this temporary home god has given us then I am sure you have had a situation where you had that happen. Or maybe you need to read what your victims are even saying that the man is working in HOPES to pay these people back what bad, cruel man would do that. Sorry but I am a person who has had god touch my life in many ways and maybe I look at things thru a different set of spectacles but maybe you need to go to church and ask god to touch your life and give you a different pair of spectacles. Maybe this man lied but if there is one sin that every being on this earth has in common and has had to ask forgiveness for is that and they are all different levels but God forgives and so do I. Thank you for your continued post on this subject. We feel pretty sure that God would want you to post in support of your fellow man by name without anonymity. We have no doubt that God supports transparency and that by his will, the righteous man shall be set free.

John Vick has been convicted of nothing, and we have not reported anything to date that is not already in the public domain. Now we can quote scripture all day long here CGR, but we’ll close with this last thought:
“When a person sins and acts unfaithfully against the LORD, and deceives his companion in regard to a deposit or a security entrusted to him, or through robbery, or if he has extorted from his companion, or has found what was lost and lied about it and sworn falsely, so that he sins in regard to any one of the things a man may do; then it shall be, when he sins and becomes guilty, that he shall restore what he took by robbery, or what he got by extortion, or the deposit which was entrusted to him, or the lost thing which he found, or anything about which he swore falsely; he shall make restitution for it in full, and add to it one-fifth more. He shall give it to the one to whom it belongs on the day he presents his guilt offering, and the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD; and he shall be forgiven for any one of the things which he may have done to incur guilt” (Lev. 6:1-7).
Why the witchhunt seems like to me the CG should be happy ya’ll got your money heck even did your updating and remodling after recieving the money while the promoter so I here lost money on that show big time. No matter what happened CG winded up getting there “DONATED” money in the end. Go report on something else. When you play basketball on that nice new court you know who to partially thank for that. Well said Anonymous, these whiny Coasties should be happy with what they got. Reminds me of a bunch of four year olds.
The concert money did not pay for the new basketball court. That was all AFC-43 dollars that fell on the base after Captain Mark Rose the previous base CO let it fall into disrepair. The court became unsafe with nail pops, splinters, dead spots, etc. The court was only replaced after it was shut down for being unsafe by employees working for Rose and he was unable to run from the issue.
What Coasties got is what Mr. Vick had agreed to contractually. Nothing less, nothing more. Coasties who already operate MWR off of a budget that would make DoD laugh, have to find their own money to support operations.
Base Commanding Officers subsidized the costs of operating MWR before modernization. MWR has now been left to fend for itself. PSC has been slow to find a solution. I bet my ass they are happy with what they got, but most employees in Elizabeth City know what they had to go through for months to get the contractually agreed to “donation.” Many employees in EC still have a copy of the bounced check hanging in their offices as a reminder of the lessons learned from this event.
Make no mistake about it, the concert was a huge success which makes you scratch your head about where Mr. Vick went wrong.
But I don’t think there is anything whiny about the issue. I’m not sure what part of the country you’re from, but this is newsworthy to us in EC. We don’t give a rats ass about CG-092 or Deepwater. We care about Civil Rights, but shouldn’t we all.
So at the same time I dont bitch all day about the posts on CG-092, Deepwater and the Thadmiral, don’t expect the rest of us to give damn about what you don’t want to read or for that matter do want to read. We probably all come here different shit.

I’m sorry didn’t realize benchmark that you where a concert promoter and saw all the paperwork from where this was a three show tour concert event and did not realize that you personally saw the profit and loss statement. And bottom line you again do not know what happen prior to this bring all of this to a head. Bad checks the man is still in business trying to pay off all the people he owes maybe just maybe there was a problem in financing and he is trying his best to be a man of his word but I would imagine it is pretty hard considering he has stuff like this hanging over his head to worry about everyday. Sorry, yeah it is news but to me ya’ll need to think of how the human mind works cause if someone did this intentionally they would not be here still trying hard to make good of mistakes. I think we can make your dreams come true and publish the P&L for this event. But before we do that, be sure it’s in the best interest of Mr. Vick. Were these documents part of discovery in Danville? If not maybe there is time to make them so before the 1 December hearing.
We had not given much thought to ordering a set of the court documents in Danville leading up to the 1 December hearing, but you have convinced us we should probably order a set. Thank God such documents are public.
I do not know if such documents exist but you would think that a company would have such a thing I do know that the company lost money on those concerts from what I heard. This is a small town. But see what I mean you are just out to hang this man and that is it. So continue, I will no longer be a part of this blog. Ya’ll are just mouthy. And act like children not grown adults.
